The Society for the Dissemination of Natural Sciences (SNU) will on 25. October 2021 award the H. C. Ørsted Medal in silver for excellent dissemination of science through research and teaching, collaboration with industry through projects and guest lectures, as well as diligent authorship to Associate Professor and PhD in Electrical Engineering Samel Arslanagic, DTU. The medal is accompanied by a grant of DKK 20,000. Both the medal and the grant are sponsored by the TICRA Foundation.
\nThe event takes place in H.C. Ørsted Bygningens Auditorium 1, Universitetsparken 5, 2100 København Ø, and begins at 19.30 with a lecture by Samel Arslanagic titled ”How to Control Electromagnetic Waves by Simple Water-Based Devices?”. The medal ceremony takes place at at 20.45.
\nAbstract: How to Control Electromagnetic Waves by Simple Water-Based Devices?
\nEver since their discovery, Maxwell’s equations have been vigorously applied in a large plethora of material configurations providing insights into their physics and applications of utmost societal importance. Over the past two decades, significant efforts in metamaterials and metasurfaces have furnished functional platforms with unprecedented ability of tailoring waves at will.
\n
\nTo this end, it was recently proposed to use water as an ingredient in such platforms due to its price, availability, bio-friendly nature and highly tunable properties.
\n
\nIn this talk we show how water can be used to design useful microwave platforms like antennas and metasurfaces that are not only simple, but also facilitate a revival of our field by
\nplacing mature theories in the context of modern applications.
