DTU Student Projects Receive Funding from the Siemens Foundation

The Siemens Foundation has awarded DKK 333,600 to student projects across Danish universities, with four DTU projects among the recipients.

The Siemens Foundation has just awarded funding to 11 innovative student projects at Danish universities. The projects focus on solutions for the future: EV batteries, drone tracking systems, AI, and sustainable energy. This reflects a growing drive for innovation among young Danish researchers.

Among the recipients is DTU student Mikkel Andersen, who, together with Associate Professor Tobias Eifler from DTU Construct, received DKK 25,000 for the project ’A Hybrid Disassembly Setup in the context of Remanufacturing. Hardware.’ The project aims to develop a hybrid demonstration cell that combines automation and manual labor to overcome central barriers in industrial remanufacturing, contributing significantly to resource savings and the green transition.

In the field of aerodynamics, DTU Wind student Anders Aaboe Jensen received DKK 15,000 for his project ’Investigation of Airfoil Flow Control using Adaptive Surface Roughness,’ supervised by Robert Flemming Mikkelsen and Hamid Sarlak. The project develops an adaptive surface roughness inspired by golf balls, utilizing active depth control to reduce separation and optimize flight characteristics for UAVs, small aircraft, and wind turbines.

The green transport sector is represented by two projects at DTU Wind & Energy Systems. Associate Professor Jan Engelhardt received DKK 9,600 for the project ’Development of Next-Gen EV Charger,’ while Nenad Mijatovic received DKK 29,000 for the project ’Next-generation EV Battery: High-efficiency pouch cells for weight reduction and learning outcomes.’ Together, the development of intelligent chargers and high-efficiency pouch cells constitutes a combined effort to optimize future electric vehicle technology and energy infrastructure.
