In September, DTU decided that the study start should have a new direction. The intro course will have greater academic content and create the framework for new students to quickly become part of academic communities. There will be a focus on easing the transition from being a pupil in a secondary school to becoming a student at a university. At the same time, DTU announced that the study start will not include overnight trips.
The framework for the study start process has now been established. Work on the study start is based on research and knowledge about how young people get the best experience of their first year of study. This means, among other things, that the students start by getting to know other students from their own study programme, as well as getting to know the academic communities offered at DTU.
The study start is planned to take place over three days, from Wednesday to Friday in week 35. There will be a welcome day and two intro days on campus, and after the schedule for the day, there will be opportunities for voluntary activities in the evening, as well as a big intro party on Friday evening.
The study start will continue to include familiar activities such as the popular "caketeams", which are meetings between students and their vectors. In addition, there will be activities with the opportunity to get to know students from other study programmes, and there are plans for an academic excursion during the first semester for all students at DTU.
Since September 2023, Dean of Studies and Student affairs Lars D. Christoffersen, Director of the Department of Study Programmes and Student Affairs Jørgen Jensen, and PF's Board have been in close dialog about the form, length and content of the study start. No agreement has been reached, and as the 2024 study start is approaching, Lars D. Christoffersen has chosen to define the overall framework. Work on the specific content of the three days of the study start will continue as planned in working groups with employees from the Department of Study Programmes and Student Affairs and KABS.
