DTU will establish the first of several new programmes at DTU Risø Campus, with the first intake expected in September 2026.
DTU’s President, Anders Bjarklev, views the establishment of the industrial technology programme as a crucial part of the strategic development of DTU Risø Campus.
“Our vision is to create an international hotspot within energy and biotechnology at Risø, with a focus on innovation, where leading researchers, students, and companies can come together to develop, test, and pilot the green solutions of the future,” he says.
The establishment of study programmes and new research areas at DTU Risø Campus are two key elements in realizing this vision. In addition, the development of Risø Gateway – an innovation and business park being developed by DTU, Roskilde Municipality, and Andel in the area east of DTU Risø Campus – will help bridge the gap between research, education, and industry, and strengthen Denmark’s position as a global centre for green technology and innovation.
First intake at DTU Risø Campus
DTU Risø Campus is currently primarily a research campus known for its research and innovation environments, particularly within sustainable energy technologies and energy systems, and for operating some of the world’s most advanced research facilities and test sites. Teaching activities at DTU Risø Campus primarily consist of individual courses and specialized classes, with several master’s and PhD students based at the campus.
Thus, the BEng in Industrial Technology will be the first comprehensive programme that DTU establishes at DTU Risø Campus, marking the first step towards developing a full-fledged educational campus there.
“With the vision we have for the development of Risø, this presents an opportunity to create a truly exciting educational environment right here – with unique opportunities and settings for learning, experimenting, and developing – and that is something we are very keen to offer our students,” says Lars D. Christoffersen, Dean of Education and Student Affairs at DTU.
The initial intake for the industrial technology programme will be 30 students, with studies commencing in September 2026, pending approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
